Unions say Corzine is balancing his budget on the backs of the workers

NBC40 has this article:

During his budget address last month Corzine proposed laying off 7,000 workers, instituting a 12 day furlough and requiring employees take two unpaid days off. And as if those proposed cuts weren’t enough…they say he’s messing with their contracts. “We have a negotiated contract, calls for 3.5 percent cost of living increase and the Governor is proposing to take these away,” said Tim Haresign, President of the Stockton Federation of Teachers, Local 2275.

With unemployment at new highs and no funds left to pay claims, Corzine plans to lay off state workers. The people being targeted are lower paid employees rather than middle and higher management. And he refuses to consider eliminating patronage jobs.
