Legislation allowing local governments and school districts to defer half a billion dollars in pension payments — a key and controversial piece of Gov. Jon Corzine’s budget agenda — cleared a hurdle yesterday in the Assembly Budget Committee.

So Corzine, who promised “no quick fixes”, is placing the burden on future generations as he defers payment on the pensions of people that have paid into their own retirement.
