Looking for cuts in all the wrong places

From NJBiz.com today:

At the 17th annual Mayors Legislative Day in the state capital, Corzine told mayors he “will be hard-pressed to sustain municipal aid, school aid or hospital aid at current rates” once the state’s new fiscal year begins July 1. The state’s budget will be reduced to about $29.5 billion in fiscal 2010, as the recession constrains state tax revenues, according to a Bloomberg News report.

Corzine failed to mention this tidbit during his Campaign Kickoff State of the State Speech Tuesday. He shied away from the aid to local municipalities, all of who suffer fromthe highets property tax rates inthe nation, but promised $4.7 billion to infrastructure projects and asked the voters to approve a referendum to borrow money for open space.
